Shëngjergji (St. George's Day) as many other festivals, it has its roots since the Illyrian pagan times. Celebrated to experience the winter break and the coming of summer. Starts May 5 depending from the province and continues until May 10. In the city of Prizren for example, it is celebrated on May 5 that for the citizens of Prizren is also known as "Karabash" (Blackhead) in the Karabash religious site because that’s where the old cemeteries of the city are. Some inhabitants of the city and the district would go there where they sought salvation by leaving some money or drinking the water from the tomb well. In the area of Opoja it is celebrated on May 5th, while in the Gora Gorge is celebrated on 6 May in the village of Vraniq. On May 7th in Rapqe, on May 8th in Brod, 9th May in the village of Lubovisht, Radesh, and on May 10th it is celebrated in Restelica. During Shëngjergj, women would perform the traditional pagan ritual where they would bathe their children with boiled eggs, flowers, and coins.
